What is a Chicago Police Cadet?

Hello, my name is Cadet Flores. I am a Chicago Police Cadet and an ambitious student who aspires to be a full-fledged Chicago Police Officer.

Being a Chicago Police Cadet means a lot of things: It means that you are, essentially, an intern on the world's greatest police force. It means that you have been selected to experience the unique world of police culture in a way that many civilians can not. It means that your dreams about the future can be found inside the walls of the Chicago Police Academy (where you are trained both physically and mentally to be a top-notch police candidate).

To be a Cadet in Chicago's Police Department, you must be between the ages of 17-21 when you turn in your application, and you have to be enrolled in school as well. After a long selection process (which includes a background investigation, a drug test, fingerprint check, and much paperwork), you receive a notice to report to the Police Academy. From the moment you walk through the Academy's doors, your life changes...

My dreamboat is a squad-car! In cadet training, you learn how to read the numbers of the squad cars to determine what neighborhood they belong to, and what duties are assigned to that car!
